Endeavour Quay, the Solent’s premier Service Centre and regatta preparation facility, has teamed up with the British 8 Metre Association to offer exclusive lifting and launching services to the International fleet of yachts entering this summer’s 8-Metre World Championships.

The regatta, hosted by the Royal Yacht Squadron, is to be held in Cowes between the 15th and 21st July 2012 and is anticipated to attract entries from all over the world. Many of the yachts will journey to the south coast of England by road and need a launching facility and somewhere to store trailers on the mainland, prior to making the journey across the Solent to Cowes.

J Class yacht books in for the summer.

March 13, 2012

2012 is all set to be an unprecedented year for “big boat sailing” in the UK, with the number of yachts visiting the Solent not seen since the America’s Cup Jubilee in 2001. The Westward Cup, The Super Yacht Cup, The J Class Regatta and The Hundred Guineas Cup are all attracting large numbers of entries and will provide a fascinating spectacle on and off the water.

Endeavour Quay, located in Portsmouth Harbour, is the only marine service centre in the Solent with no air or water draft restrictions and has a 180 ton capacity travel hoist to provide a wide range of lifting and storage services. In the last 5 years Endeavour Quay has built a reputation for being the ‘facility of choice’ for race preparation and as a regatta base.  Whether it is berthing, bunkering, equipment storage, craning, hull cleaning, emergency lifts or crew accommodation the yard can undertake or arrange them all!

Endeavour Quay is delighted to announce that the newest J Class yacht ‘Rainbow’ that was recently launched at Holland Jachtbouw in the Netherlands, has already reserved a berth at Endeavour Quay this summer. This beautiful yacht will be based at Endeavour Quay throughout the summer whilst the crew prepare her for the season’s UK regattas.

Boatshed enhancements 2011

B shed enhancements B Shed enhancements

Just before the Christmas break we undertook some enhancements of the undercover areas at Endeavour Quay with the erection of wall panels in the boat sheds. The benefit of this is to reduce the transfer of airborne particles between each of the boat bays and also to reduce heat loss between the bays. An added benefit is the increased privacy between the project areas – should this be a priority for clients.

B shed enhancements B shed enhancements

The main boat bay at Endeavour Quay, called B shed, is now a fully enclosed space that with very little modification can be turned into a massive spray booth measuring 35metres x 12.5metres complete with 3 phase power, brand new metal halide lighting and two 5 ton overhead cranes.

B shed after the work is completed ready for the next boat.

The work was undertaken by Marine Shrinkwrapping Ltd  and completed on time and on budget, a big thank to Martyn and his team.

MARINE TECH ENGINEERING LTD under new management

January 5, 2012

Marinetech

Marine Tech Engineering Ltd, which was set up in 2006 when Endeavour Quay opened, has recently been sold to new owners. John Dew is the new Owner and Managing Director of the company and brings with him a vast wealth of experience from the Super Yacht sector.

For the last 28years John has held Senior Engineer and Captain positions onboard numerous Super Yachts, the most recent of which was  M.Y. Voyager, a 90foot explorer yacht that regularly visited Endeavour Quay for annual servicing.

John Dew of Marine Tech Engineering Ltd

Today John said “The opportunity to take on my own engineering business at Endeavour Quay was to good to pass up. The yard has the best facilities in the region for lifting and refitting large vessels, which is my background having project managed four complex yacht refits. As a skipper bringing Voyager here, I always felt it had a good atmosphere and everyone was very helpful. Large boats aside, we are also very keen to work with the hundereds of smaller private yachts in the harbour that can benefit from a higher level of service and quality of engineer at very reasonable rates.”

We are really pleased to have John onboard at Marine Tech Ltd, with all his experience and knowledge.  For more information on their services email shop@marinetechnet.com or telephone  +44 (0) 2392 52 58 58.

Endeavour Quay clients go racing

The Autumn of 2011 has been a busy season for many of Endeavour Quay’s professional Yachtsmen and women, with a number of key races starting from Northern Europe including the Global Ocean Race and the Transat Jacques Vabre and the Transat BtoB.

Start of the Transat Jacques Vabre 2011

The Global Ocean Race is a round the world race, with stops, for Class 40 yachts sailed with just two crew (shorthanded). Endeavour Quay provided support  as a Race Partner and helped two of the yachts entering the race providing lifting, storage and technical services to the skippers over the summer of 2011. PHESHEYA RACING skippered by Nick Leggatt and Phillippa Hutton-Squire and FINANCIAL CRISIS skippered by Marco Nannini and Paul Peggs made good use of the yards deep water and shore side facilities.  The race started on the 25th September from Palma, Mallorca and the yachts are currently battling their way through the Southern Ocean on route to New Zealand.

The Transat Jacques Vabre is a biennial Race between Le Havre, Northern France to Porto Limon in Costa Rica for Class 40 and IMOCA Open 60 yachts sailed shorthanded. Endeavour Quay had four of its clients enter the race; The Open 60s HUGO BOSS and GAMESA and the Class 40s FORTY DEGREES and SOLO. The race started on 11 November and Endeavour Quay travelled to Le Havre to support them at the start.  After some ferocious storms that decimated the fleet, we are pleased to report that all of our clients made it to the finish recording some excellent results.

  • GAMESA – 9th place
  • FORTY DEGREES – 3rd place
  • SOLO – 4th place

At the start of December Alex Thomson of HUGO BOSS and Mike Golding of GAMESA then took part in the Transat BtoB Race, a single-handed yacht race from the Caribbean back to France. This race is used as a qualifier for the up coming 2012 Vendee Globe Race.  Having suffered horrendous conditions through out the race and a vicious storm that threatened to hit as they reached the continental shelf and the finish line the race organisers took the decision to cut the race short.  Both Alex and Mike survived the course and have now both completed qualification for the Vendee Globe Race.

Class 40s – One in, One out.

July 13, 2011

Phesheya Racing ashore at Endeavour Quay - July 2011
It was a busy morning at Endeavour Quay with the Class 40s yachts. First of all, Hannah Jenner and Anna Renken’s boat ‘40 Degrees’ was re-launched and almost immediately Phillipa Hutton-Squire and Nick Leggatt’s ‘Phesheya Racing’ was lifted ashore.  Both of these racing yachts are entered in the Global Ocean Race, a two handed round the world race that starts from Palma, Mallorca on 25th September.

Endeavour Quay has teamed up with the Global Ocean Race as a performance partner offering discounted services to race competitors at our extensive, deep water facilities on the South Coast of England, providing lift out, crane work, 180 inversion tests and support services for the teams.

Both ‘40 Degrees’ and ‘Phesheya Racing’ are having extensive work to water tight bulkheads and ballast tanks to get the boats up to Cat Zero for the race. This work is being done by the onsite GRP specialist Endeavour Yacht Services.

Hannah Jenner and Anna Renken are pleased to be back in the water

Later this month both boats will be undertaking the 180 degree inversion test at Endeavour Quay as a mandatory part of the qualification for the race. More updates on this to follow.

We are delighted to announce that another G.O.R. competitor is making it’s way to Gosport to use Endeavour Quay as it’s race preparation base. More  news on this when the boat arrives.

May Lillian

Her owners brought the vessel to Endeavour Quay in 2010 for annual maintenance and were so impressed with the service and facilities here that they returned again this year.
